Adversarial Problem Solving: Modeling an Oponent Using Explanatory Coherence

چکیده

Many problem-solving tasks involve other people. Often, accomplishment of a task requires coordination with others, an enterprise that might be called cooperative problem solving. Unfortunately, however, we also face problems that require us t6 take into account the actions of opponents; this is adversarial problem solving (APS). Both kinds of social problem solving have been relatively neglected by cognitive science researchers who typically investigate people’s performance on nonsocial problems. This article investigates the cognitive processes required for APS in which one must anticipate and understand the actions of an opponent. A review of several domains of APS-military strategy, business, and game playing-

The Functions of ‘Surah Coherence’ in Interpretation Applied to Allameh Tabatabai’s al-Mizan and Sayyid Qutb’s Fi Zilal al-Quran

‘Surah coherence’ is an important aspect of the Quranic language, which, due to its unique role in interpretation, has been highly regarded by commentators and Quranic scholars, especially over the last half a century. According to this theory, each surah is centered around a main issue in such a way that all the topics of the surah create an all-encompassing unity. The present study intends to...

Network and direct methods of maximising harmony

Paul Thagard (1989t) presents an interesting and important theoretical account of choosing between hypotheses in scientific and everyday domains, describing a network model, ECHO, which aims to embody these ideas. Thagard's integration of philosophical, psychological, and computational considerations is impressive in its breadth, theoretical rigor, and conceptual simplicity. It is a compelling ...

A new solving approach for fuzzy flexible programming problem in uncertainty conditions

Modeling and solving real world problems is one of the most important issues in optimization problems. In this paper, we present an approach to solve Fuzzy Interval Flexible Linear Programming (FIFLP) problems that simultaneously have the interval ambiguity in the matrix of coefficients .In the first step, using the interval problem solving techniques; we transform the fuzzy interval flexible p...

Generalized iterative methods for solving double saddle point problem

In this paper, we develop some stationary iterative schemes in block forms for solving double saddle point problem. To this end, we first generalize the Jacobi iterative method and study its convergence under certain condition. Moreover, using a relaxation parameter, the weighted version  of the Jacobi method together with its convergence analysis are considered. Furthermore, we extend a method...

Probabilistic Networks and Explanatory Coherence

Causal reasoning can be understood qualitatively in terms of explanatory coherence or quantitatively in terms of probability theory. Comparison of these approaches can be done by looking at computational models, using my explanatory coherence networks and Pearl’s probabilistic ones. The explanatory coherence program ECHO can be given a probabilistic interpretation, but there are many conceptual...
